Well Saturday was wet, it rained steadily all day, but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the Worcestershire Group for our 3rd plant sale at Peopleton. I arrived at about 12 with the other committee members and we set out the hall. David Pollitt had everything under control and a short while later the plants started to arrive. They kept coming and thanks to those volunteers who helped unload the car boots, bringing the plants into the porch for the 'pricing team' of Judy and Margaret assisted by Wendy and others. Another team moved the plants into the hall and arranged them alphabetically. Soon the tables were groaning with a wonderful variety of perennials, shrubs and a few annuals. Julia and the team in the kitchen made sure that the workers had hot drinks; John did a good trade in plant supports and at 2 o'clock the doors opened.
The next hour and a half was really busy, people seemed pleased with the quality and choice of what we were offering and filled their bags, and then stopped for a cuppa and slice of home made cake.
I am delighted to say that we made £815 profit! This will of course be used for the group, allowing us to book good speakers for the coming year and ensuring that we have an interesting and varied programme for you.
So I would like to say a really big thank you to everyone; for the plants that you produced in such abundance, for the cakes you baked and to everyone who helped on the day, the carrying, pricing, setting up and clearing away and all the members who manned the stalls, helping the customers to find plants they wanted and giving a wealth of information about the plants and how to grow them. Quite a few members of the public had been to the sale in previous years and it is lovely to know they want to come again.
I hope to see a good number of you at our July meeting when we will be giving out the tickets for our anniversary celebration in September. If you know of anyone who hasn't been to meetings and won't have had the chance to put their name on the list, please ask them to contact Lyn or me. If you can't come to the July meeting, don't worry because we will ensure that everyone who has requested a ticket will get one.
